There are different schools of thought in Feng Shui. One is no better than another -- just different. Within the different schools, the practitioner will use different tools. Compass school practitioners use the Lo Pan compass dealing with true compass points. BTB Feng Shui practitioners use the Bagua, an energetic map, lining it up with the front door of the house and that side of the building becomes "north" on the Bagua map.

It can become confusing, so it is best not to mix the different schools together. Pick a school and go with that until you feel confident and learn much more. Most westerners are more comfortable using the Bagua map to orient the home and the different life areas.

Feng Shui for Dummies, by David Daniel Kennedy is an excellent book that describes the use if the Bagua.

Hope these links help you to understand the differences of the various approaches.

Try Ikea website....They have a very nice free software program....Also, I did a new master bathroom and used BHG.com (better homes and gardens). It was very easy and the bathroom turned out much better than I expected!

There ARE some kitchen design tools online you can use
this is one that I found http://onlinedesigner.hgtv.com/visualizer/ProjectCenter.do

Autocad can be pricey and a bit tough to learn

Depending on the age of your daughter and what "look" you have in mind, there are several things you can do.
We recently completely re-did our daughters' room to reflect her change in maturity - but this would work for any age.

We used cellular blinds (white - you could go w/ beige) from Home Depot - off the rack, cut to size - not real expensive) and a decorative curtain rod w/ 'finials' at the ends. Then we purchased "scarves" in solid colors and used two different colors (cool green and purple for her room). The nice thing is that we can change one or both of the solid colors and the way they're hung to get totally different looks. I happened on a great sale at Boscov's (www.boscovs.com) and got two for pretty much the price of one regularly.

To see what different ways there are to hang them, I used JCPenney... jcpenny.com and just browsed all of the different ones they showed (usually under the 'sheers' is where the sheer drapes/scarves are) and got ideas from there.

If you're really on a tight budget, you can purchase closeout or clearance single size sheets in solid colors as well. They're a bit heavier and a little tougher to work with , but it can be done.

Hope this helps! Good luck w/ the decorating!

A couple of simple suggestions for you:

~Keep it tidy! Neat piles of clothes, rows of shoes etc...This helps energy to flow smoothly and easily - hopefully like your career
~If possible, rig up a light so that when you open the closet the light comes on - career illuminated!
~As you're majoring in art, put pieces of art you admire on the closet, put pictures of artists whose careers or work you'd like to emulate on or in the closet and if there is anywhere you'd like to get a job, put the name of the place on the closet as well.
~Placing a mirror on or in the closet would be good also as this part of the bagua is connected to water energy which a mirror is.

Hi, try this. Go into Google or Yahoo image search. Key in pottery barn living rooms or living room designs or whatever you think best describes the item you're looking for. Voila, you now have thousands of photographs to choose from. Most images link to a website for more information. If you can’t find anything this way go to glidden.com. You can select from any color on their color chart and actually see a room painted in that color. It's good for color coordination. I use it quite often!

Hey Dear............

Living room is the place where you spend hours with your family, friends and guests. It is not a private place like bedroom so you should pay attention towards the taste of the family members. By using the right colors we can change the appearance of the room.

I would go to www.uppercaseliving.com
It is vinyl words, sayings, classy embellishments I bought some things and now all my friends want it for themselves. It goes on easy you pick your colors. Yet is is removable without any damage when you get tired of it. To look at a catalog use the demo id 133701 and the token CAMP

A new catalog will be online the 10th of jan. You can also create your own. Pottery Barn has this too but this has more selection and wayyyyy less expensive. Good Luck.

I like the idea someone else mentioned of floating shelves. You could put all sorts of artwork/candles or what not on them.

Another idea might be to find a tapestry you really like, or even to make one out of material you love.

You could also put up wall sculptures, or even a huge clock.

If it's opposite your couch, you could also use it for a huge projector tv.
